License & Official Sources

VidControl is free of charge — but it is not open source. You may use it privately and commercially, on as many devices as you like, for as long as you like. What is restricted is redistribution: VidControl may only be passed on unmodified, and only through the official sources listed below.

Any copy of VidControl obtained anywhere else is not authorized. It has not been checked by me, it may have been altered, it may have been bundled with additional software, and it may be hosted on a site of unknown reputation. If something goes wrong with such a copy, I cannot help you and I am not responsible for it — please download VidControl from one of the sources above instead.

What is not allowed

Without my prior written permission, you may not:

redistribute, mirror or offer VidControl for download outside the sources listed above;
repackage it or change the structure or contents of the official release;
bundle it with other software or components — including FFmpeg — or add installers, updaters, wrappers, launchers, download managers or advertising;
modify, patch or create derivative works of it;
rename it, or distribute it under a name confusingly similar to “VidControl”;
present a copy as official, endorsed or reviewed when it is not;
sell it, charge for access, or put it behind a paywall, a registration wall or a download manager.

Want to mirror VidControl or offer a separate package? Just ask — info@vidctrl.de. A short e‑mail is all it takes, and the answer may well be yes.

About FFmpeg

VidControl deliberately does not ship with FFmpeg. FFmpeg is separate software from the FFmpeg project with its own licence (LGPL/GPL); VidControl helps you set it up, but you obtain and supply it yourself. This separation is intentional — it keeps VidControl free of FFmpeg’s release cycle and of its distribution obligations. Anyone who bundles FFmpeg into a VidControl package becomes the distributor of that combined package and takes on those obligations themselves; they are not mine.

No warranty

VidControl is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non‑infringement. In no event shall the author be liable for any claim, damages or other liability arising from the software or its use. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of VidControl, and of any content you process with it, complies with applicable law and the rights of third parties.

VidControl ist kostenlos — aber kein Open Source. Du darfst es privat und kommerziell nutzen, auf beliebig vielen Geräten, so lange du willst. Eingeschränkt ist die Weitergabe: VidControl darf nur unverändert und nur über die unten genannten offiziellen Quellen weitergegeben werden.

Jede Kopie von VidControl aus einer anderen Quelle ist nicht autorisiert. Wenn mit so einer Kopie etwas schiefgeht, kann ich nicht helfen und bin dafür nicht verantwortlich — lade VidControl bitte über eine der oben genannten Quellen.

Was nicht erlaubt ist

Ohne meine vorherige schriftliche Genehmigung darfst du nicht:

VidControl außerhalb der oben genannten Quellen weiterverteilen, spiegeln oder zum Download anbieten;
es umpacken oder Struktur bzw. Inhalt des offiziellen Pakets verändern;
es mit anderer Software oder Komponenten bündeln — auch nicht mit FFmpeg — oder Installer, Updater, Wrapper, Launcher, Download-Manager oder Werbung hinzufügen;
es verändern, patchen oder davon abgeleitete Werke erstellen;
es umbenennen oder unter einem mit „VidControl“ verwechselbaren Namen verbreiten;
eine Kopie als offiziell, autorisiert oder geprüft darstellen, wenn sie es nicht ist;
es verkaufen, den Zugang bepreisen oder es hinter eine Paywall, einen Registrierungszwang oder einen Download-Manager stellen.

Zu FFmpeg

VidControl wird bewusst ohne FFmpeg ausgeliefert. FFmpeg ist eigenständige Software des FFmpeg-Projekts mit eigener Lizenz (LGPL/GPL); VidControl hilft dir beim Einrichten, du stellst es aber selbst bereit. Diese Trennung ist Absicht — sie hält VidControl frei vom Release-Zyklus und von den Weitergabepflichten von FFmpeg. Wer FFmpeg in ein VidControl-Paket bündelt, wird selbst zum Verteiler dieses kombinierten Pakets und übernimmt diese Pflichten — sie sind nicht meine.

Keine Gewährleistung

VidControl wird „wie besehen“ bereitgestellt, ohne jede ausdrückliche oder stillschweigende Gewährleistung. Eine Haftung für Schäden aus der Nutzung der Software ist ausgeschlossen, soweit gesetzlich zulässig. Du bist selbst dafür verantwortlich, dass deine Nutzung von VidControl und der damit verarbeiteten Inhalte geltendem Recht und den Rechten Dritter entspricht.
